The second edition of the « Agribusiness Bootcamp » concluded on friday, 22nd august at Kpele, located in the Haho prefecture of Togo. The closing ceremony was presided over by Isaac Tchiakpe, Togo’s Minister of Technical Education, Vocational Training, and Apprenticeship. Organized by Compassion International Togo and its partner churches, the session is part of the Nehemiah Agribusiness Academy (NABA) training center project.

A total of 400 adolescents and young people passionate about agriculture and livestock farming participated in the 2025 edition.

“The Agribusiness Bootcamp was created for youth enrolled in Compassion International’s program who are interested in pursuing agricultural careers, as well as their parents, guardians, and community members. This training allows them to engage with the realities of the agricultural sector and apply what they’ve learned in their home communities,” explained Claude Kotche, National Director of the NABA center.

The training spanned two months and was delivered in eight cohorts. Each week, a group of young participants attended practical sessions. They were introduced to the fundamentals of vegetable farming, poultry farming, fish farming, and nursery plant production.

Benefits of the Agribusiness Bootcamp

At the end of the program, participants received certificates of completion and starter kits—practical tools designed to help them immediately apply their new skills.

“Dear adolescent and young participants of the 2025 Bootcamp, beyond the training you’ve received and the kits you’re receiving today, I want to emphasize the importance of each of you becoming an agent of community development in your local areas through the actions you will undertake using your new knowledge. Children and youth remain a top priority for the Togolese government,” urged Isaac Tchiakpé.

For Koudifon Bernice, a participant in the Agribusiness Bootcamp, the experience was highly enriching:
“This was a wonderful experience for us. We acquired foundational knowledge in the field and gained a real understanding of the agricultural sector. We learned how to formulate appropriate feed for each growth stage of chickens, as well as key steps in vegetable production—from land selection and bed preparation to crop management and organic treatment solutions. We also explored agribusiness careers and pesticide management.”

The NABA center aims to train 2,480 young people and 1,120 parents/guardians and community members by December 2026 through short-term trainings, customized programs, certified courses, and the organization of introductory agricultural bootcamps for youth.
